Thanks to a $650,000 investment in our Maternal and Child Health Services, Winchester Hospital’s Mother Baby Unit is being renovated to add more capacity to meet patient demand. The initiative supports the hospital’s commitment to providing the very best care for parents and their newborns close to home.
The five multiuse rooms under construction will serve different patients depending on the time of year. During the busy summer months in the Mother Baby Unit, the new rooms will be licensed for use for postpartum care. The rooms will be then be licensed used for medical/surgical care in the fall, winter and early spring, when there are typically fewer births at Winchester Hospital. The rooms are expected to be open by Summer 2017.
The Mother Baby Unit includes award-winning lactation services for nursing mothers as well as a program that promotes safe sleep for babies. Our team also is working toward earning the Baby-Friendly Hospital designation from the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The journey to become a Baby-Friendly Hospital was started with a very generous gift from Charlene and Richard Williams in memory of their daughter, Grace.
